This week, Dew on the Grass offers you this beautiful and evocative poem, written by Chris Yeomans.
Sometimes
I want to dress
in burgundy and mustard
and cross the world
to see the Dalai Lama.
Sometimes
I want to offer a white silk scarf,
which, in my mind,
is like the scarf that
gentleman used to wear
with evening dress.
Sometimes
I want to hear
the turning of prayer wheels,
the flapping of flags
and to see the stream
of cloud from the summit
of Mount Everest.
Sometimes
I want to go back
to the smoke-filled temples in Hong Kong,
to wipe the incense dust
from my fingers
to blink
in the glow of flickering oil lamps
and to hear the dissonant chants of foreign monks
singing in an alien key.
Sometimes
the everyday ordinary
here at home
is just too much.
